Common Types of Cancer

Cancer is a disease which even today had no cure. They are very complex in nature and hard to fight. Cancer is of different types and each affects human body in a different ways. The treatment plan and symptoms differ according to the different type of cancer cells present in the body. The location where the cancer cells are present also changes the treatment plan. Cancers can be divided into four broad categories.

Carcinoma

It is a malignant form of cancer cells. It is of epithelial origin. This kind of tumor starts in the tissue that forms a lining to the body’s organ. This includes organ like nose, colon, penis, breasts, prostrate, urinary bladder, and the urethra. This type of cancer is common and makes up for 80 per cent of the cases. The symptoms of this kind of cancer are weight loss and dysphasia. People should go for a check up if they have any of the above symptoms to be on the safe side. The doctors check for lumps and get lab tests done. X-rays and other tests show if the patient has cancer and if yes then the extent and location of the diseased call can be found. They get blood test and urine test done. These give the necessary information required for the treatment. Different types of scan are required to show cancer cells in different parts of the body.

Sarcoma

Sarcoma is the tumor that starts in either the bone, muscle, cartilage or the fibrous tissue. They are majorly of two types namely, Ewing sarcoma and Kaposi's sarcoma. Ewing sarcoma is common when a person attains puberty. They are very rarely found in kids below the age of 10. The common symptom is swelling and pain in the area where the tumor is located. They spread at a very fast rate a may effect the patients lungs and spread to other bones. People have to go through chemotherapy and radiation therapy. They might have to use surgical excision of the primary tumor, or even have to amputate the effected extremity. Kaposi's sarcoma is generally found in AIDs patient. They affect the skin and can be very aggressive. This involves skin, lungs, gastrointestinal tract and other such organs. People need to make sure that they practice safe sex. This prevents spreading of AIDs.

Leukemia

Leukemia's are the cancer that affects the blood. And other organs that help to form blood. They can be both acute and chronic in nature. They prevent the body from fighting against infections and other diseases. The common symptoms are Weakness, fatigue, frequent infections, Fever, chills, pains and so on. The treatment process for this is very complex and difficult.

Lymphomas

Lymphomas are the cancer cells that affect lymphatic system. This system helps the distribution of nutrients to the entire body. The cancer cells prevent form the system from doing so. They can spread to liver, bone marrow and spleen. There is no explanation as to how this starts and spreads. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are the common treatment plan that helps in fighting this type of cancer.
